They go rafting, but Tim reserves a luxury trailer for sleeping. Tim and Jill have three sons Brad, Randy and Mark. Each son has their own quirks, Brad is into sports, Randy is smart, and Mark is the younger sensitive brother. As said before, Tim often causes mayhem around with machines as well as his marriage. He often goes to his neighbor, Wilson, who is known to give very profound and helpful advice. Wilson is always found in the backyard behind Tim's fence.
When the first video attempt is dull, he makes another video. Brad is excited to finally get his first car, but when it's stolen and stripped, Tim is determined to track down the culprits. Brad does not do well on his math test, and it may hurt his chances of getting into college. Wilson has a friend visiting from England; he owns a soccer team and extends an offer to Brad to play. Comedy about the host of a small do-it-yourself TV show, his independent wife and their trio of growing boys.

Wilson wins $10,000 by sitting in the raffle seat. He fears the loss of conversation with Wilson. It comes as a shock to the guys that gather there for man talk and tools. Al owns a percentage of the store, and Tim buys the rest. The business starts slow and then grows more than they can handle.
We cut to a shot of Mark, as he appears in a caulking gun. We cut to a shot of Randy, as he swings on a tree. We cut to a shot of Brad, as he turns the TV on. Then, it shows the three boys running around in circles. We cut to various shots of the Taylor family, as well as a shot of the show's logo. The sequence ends with a shot of the Taylor family.

He tells the audience about the oil light incident that happened to "a friend". Tim gets support from two audience members with similar experiences. Randy and his girlfriend Lauren are selected to go to Costa Rica for a school program to study the rain forests. Tim tries to fix things by telling Randy he cannot go. The opening sequence began with a shot of a wood background.

Jill has ignored the car's oil warning light for two days, and the car becomes inoperative. Tim then gives a speech on Tool Time about respect for the machines.

It's Valentine's weekend, and Tim makes plans to go with Jill to a romantic getaway. Then on Tool Time, camping equipment is featured, and Tim says he wishes he could go camping with his family. Jill's operation is completed, and she has had a total hysterectomy. Jill is really upset at what this represents. Jill's mother visits to help around the house.
A paper rolls up as the Home Improvement logo is formed. Tim pops up with a ruler next to it, and moves his mouth. We cut to a closeup shot of Tim, he puts his goggles on, and uses a sledgehammer to hit the wall. Jill pops in, and Tim looks on astonishment by waving at her. Tim appears next to the show's logo, and we see a shot of Tim and Jill. Tim tears the show's logo down, and Jill hugs Tim.

The season introduces the Taylors, the average American family, that really aren't so. Tim Taylor, the man of the house, has his own Tool TV show entitled "Tool Time" with a bachelor co-host Al Borland. Tim is also found to be accident prone and often wanting to rewire and fix things around the house and at work. Jill Taylor is Tim's loving wife, but continually gives him grief over some of the trouble he causes. The series is based on the stand-up comedy routines of star Tim Allen. A34731.5Bob Vila re-appears on Tool Time and challenges Tim to a lawnmower race for charity. Determined to beat Vila once and for all, Tim inserts a jet engine from a helicopter into the lawnmower. Meanwhile, Brad and Randy create "The Tadpole Secrecy Test" for Mark, who wants them to play with him. The test involves Mark holding a live tadpole in his mouth for three seconds, but he accidentally swallows it.
